I'll go first and list my top 5 slash and my top 5 non-slash favorite stories.
Top 5 Slash stories:
These are not in order. On any given day, the order might change.
1.
That Note at the Bottom (Apartment 42B/Oh, Darling!):
A threesome in 1964 Bahamas between J/P/G. They're writing if "If I Fell." George is the hottest! George and John tell the story from the afterlife looking down at Paul. Wow!
2.
A Perfect Time (Gingersling or Gingers4)
George is the hero; John is funny. I've only had access to 2 chapters although it was completed and undergoing a re-edit before disappearing from the internet. 2 entries on lennon_harrison in spring 2006. People who had read a complete earlier draft loved it.
3.
The Vampire John Lennon (Melody Clark/jp_archive)
Vampires and Beatles, what more needs to be said.
4.
Helter Skelter (Abbeyrd 62561/oh, darling!):
Deeply disturbing story but so well done. Paul gets busted in '68 for unwittingly carrying John's heroin into NY and barely survives a horrific few weeks in a NY jail. Major implications for his relationship with John.
5.
Black Book (taxie/oh, darling!)
Thought I'd wandered into one of Anne Rice's pornographic novels with the Beatles as the stars (the Sleeping Beauty series, that is, not vampires or witches)
Top 5 Non-Slash stories:
1.
Tug of War (Ms. Moonlight/Indica's Attic/
http://indicasattic.homestead.com/TugofWar.html ):
Paul is the time traveler desperately trying to save John. But what if that requires giving up Linda and the kids and everything he loves about his own life? (ongoing and a recent update)
2,
The Price of Eternity (anyathe/Beatlescribes/Yahoo groups)
Vampires and Beatles in Revolutionary France and George is the hero. Actually there is a little implied slashiness but the major love interests for all of them are hetero.
3.
Tell Me What You See (abbeyrd 62561/Fabfourfanfic/Yahoo Groups):
George is having disturbing prophetic dreams of Paul dying in a car crash. An incredibly exciting supernatural plot
4.
Song of India (Good Day Sunshyne /
http://www.angelfire.com/ny4/Starlitcafe/SIS.html ) :
George has lots and lots and lots of hetero sex in India. "Something" really wasn't about Pattie.
5.
Change My World (Sarah Henley of St. John's Wood. The link is bad so I only know how to get it through Fabfourfanfic/ Yahoo groups. The author is
60sfreak on LJ and could perhaps provide a link to an open source)
Paul really did die in a car crash. Really cool alternative history with neat supernatural elements.
Great unfinished stories:
In addition to "That Note at the Bottom," "A Perfect Time" and "Tug of War" (listed above),
Our Generation by Faolan Mary Sue time traveler walks out on the Beatles when they act like shits. Reconnects with older George in her own time. Meets Dhani in England. Why did you stop?
http://faolan.atspace.com/ourgeneration/chapters.htmlIf They Only Knew by Strawberry Walrus. Includes Bob Dylan, Beatles in Liverpool, Hamburg and London. George is the hero. Heroine even goes to Greenwich Village in early 60s. The heroine is not a Mary Sue and she is torn between Paul and an unrecognized passion for like-a-brother-to-me George:
http://www.geocities.com/ifthey_onlyknew/Had it Been Another Day by Cinder Whittier Don't know why I love this so much. Maybe a neat supernatural element added to the Mary Sue story.
http://www.angelfire.com/mt/strawberry/anotherdayintro.html A group story that's begging to be finished:
Beatles Horror Story: started on Beatlescribes and moved to Keep-Britain-Tidy (both Yahoo groups). Beatles fight zombies (referred to by John as "chompy weirdos"). George, Ringo, and John agree that in the event of starvation, Paul is the one to eat. Funny and weird.
